On last Saturday the Cubs officially announced LHP Felix Doubront unconditional release. Following the 2015 season, the Cubs and the Doubront had to use all the means possible to avoid arbitration when the two sides came to conclude and agreed on to a salary of $ 1.925 million as the salary for the 2015 season with the team.
Through this agreement with Doubront, the Cubs are saving up to $ 1.452 million on their part.
After the four spring games, Doubront gave up nine earned run on 17 hits over the seven innings. He had only pitched in relief. During the beginning of the camp, he was taken as the fifth starter spot, though he did not still manage to get to spring start.
Reviewing on Doubront’s games in the previous season, he was with a 5.54 ERA in 21 games that are 14 starts when with the Red Sox and Cubs.
After the Cubs granted the left-hander Doubront the release they still owe him 45 days termination pay, that is about $ 473,000 which they had agreed in a contract they signed for $1.925 million.
Now the Cubs spring training roster stands at 38 players only with RHP Jacob Turner, RHP Dallas Beeler, OF Chris Denorfia and LHP Tsuyoshi Wada being expected to start the season on the disabled list. Though the Cubs have nine more decisions to make between the date and the Opening Night.
The Cubs produced the roster spot required for LHP Phil Coke with the Saturday’s roster move.
Tsuyoshi Wada, made slow progress this spring because of the leg issues he was having, he threw 42 pitches in simulated game on Sunday.
