Oklahoma City Fire Coach Scott Brooks After Failing To The Playoff

On Wednesday, the Oklahoma City Thunder fired their head coach Scott Brooks after his injury stricken team failed to reach this year’s playoff, the first time in six years that such a thing has happened.

This might not come as a surprise to many given that his position as the coach of the Oklahoma City had been questioned on several occasions. During his tenure, Brooks, 49, has led his team to three western Conference Finals and a trip to the NBA finals back in 2012.

A statement that was issued out by Sam Presti, the general manager for Oklahoma Thunder revealed how difficult it was to let Brooks go.

"This is an extremely difficult decision on many levels," he said.

"Scott helped establish the identity of the Thunder and has earned his rightful place in the history of our organization through his seven years as a valued leader and team member."

The Oklahoma City finished the season ninth behind New Orleans pelican who qualified the playoff due to aware game rules. Both Oklahoma and New Orleans finished this season with the same number of wins and losses (45-37 record).

“It is very important to state that this decision is not a reflection of this past season, but rather an assessment of what we feel is necessary at this point in time in order to continually evolve, progress and sustain,” said Presti.

"We determined that, in order to stimulate progress and put ourselves in the best position next season and as we looked to the future, a transition of this kind was necessary for the program."
